Overview

Contractual Child and Adolescent psychiatrist needed for DCF-funded, therapeutic group home for young men ages 14 – 20. This is a clinically intensive program with psychiatry, nursing and therapist hours onsite. The approach is team-oriented and we work with youth with severe psychiatric (i.e., attachment, mood dysregulation, thought disorders, etc.) and challenging behavioral issues. The treatment approach is gender sensitive and trauma-informed, and we are seeking a psychiatrist who understands the nuances of evaluating, prescribing for and providing treatment expertise to this vulnerable population. Ultimately, the program goal is to support clients in building the skills either to manage independently, return to family or to foster care or to move on successfully to adult placements.

Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Participation in weekly Clinical Team meetings in Old Saybrook
  • Reviewing and approving client treatment plans.
  • Meeting documentation deadlines.
  • Meeting with adolescents and prescribing psychiatric medications as needed.
  • Diagnostic assessments and periodic, full psychiatric assessments
  • Documenting in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Providing guidance for staff in diagnosis appropriate interventions and treatment planning.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the clinical approaches employed by the program.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Experience with adolescents and or young adults
  • Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist preferred.  
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of best practices, particularly in regards to psychopharmacological interventions for child and adolescent population.
